WHERE'S THE JUSTICE.

Where'sTheJustice

Aboriginal peoples in Canada are constitutionally guaranteed the right to education. Yet the Aboriginal population is much less likely than any other group to attend college or university.

Why?

Because the Canadian government isn’t living up to its responsibilities to Aboriginal students. While tuition fees skyrocketed, the government froze aboriginal students’ funding. As a result, fewer Aboriginal students are receiving funding. Those who are lucky enough funding find it undermined every year with tuition fee increases. This is all happening while Canada’s young Aboriginal population is growing.

This campaign in addition addresses the federal government’s reluctance to implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal peoples completed in 1999.  The campaign aims to raise awareness of the roots of violence, poverty, and discrimination faced by Aboriginal people, and encourage Aboriginal students to get involved in their local students’ union and the Federation.

The Canadian Federation of Students’ is working to hold the Canadian government to its responsibilities to Aboriginal responsibilities to Aboriginal students. To get involved in the campaign for fairness, contact your students’ union office.
