SERVICES
Every year students struggle to find a place to live while studying in the Okanagan-Shuswap. There is only one campus with on-site residences, and the space there is limited. The situation off-campus can be daunting too, as vacancy rates in the Okanagan are nearly always low. But it’s not all bad news, because OCSU members have access to the Housing Registry.
The OCSU Housing Registry is a comprehensive registry of student housing listings. For many of our members, this free online service helps ensure that they can find a comfortable and affordable place to live before the bustle of the academic year begins. The registry is convenient and user-friendly, as students can search for available housing based on the type of accommodation, number of bedrooms, and by the date available.
Beyond these considerations, students can search based on particular features that are not found on other housing websites but are important to students, such as proximity to campus, access to transit, acceptability of co-signing, laundry services, parking accessibility, and much more. Further, if you are a student who is looking for roommates, you can post your listing for free!
Students moving to the Okanagan-Shuswap for the first time, or transferring to another college or university, will be happy to hear that the OCSU Housing Registry has now gone national! Other Students’ Unions in the Canadian Federation of Students in our region and across Canada have posted housing opportunities that you can search right on our registry!
Many of our members will be renting for the first time, or have rented before but have not had the chance to find information about their legal protections. Because OCSU knows that it is important that our members are familiar with their rights as tenants, this information is available in the your free OCSU Handbook, which you can pick up at any of our OCSU offices.
