OC UNFRIENDS REGIONAL CAMPUSES
Students are uninspired. OC moves Upgrading to online and cancels in person learning opportunities.
Okanagan College has made the decision to move multiple ABE courses to an online format on our Salmon Arm, Vernon, and Penticton campuses, while cancelling classes that don't have high enough enrolment.
What they don’t tell you is that registration for these classes opened mid-August, leaving students little to no time to enrol, and in-community recruitment has been taken away. This decision perpetuates discrimination and ableism, isolating students from marginalized backgrounds who rely on in-person instruction. Rural campuses depend on local community engagement, and shifting to online-only classes excludes those with limited digital access, literacy, and financial resources, further reducing educational opportunities for students in poverty. This move undermines student success, contradicts OC’s 'Inspire Plan,' reinforces systems of oppression, and fails to uphold equity and the right to education. Taking our Upgrading student peers off campus says that OC does not want to spend time, space, or resources on Upgrading students and the campuses who support them. Tell OC you're uninspired with their administration unfriending our regional campuses!
